At an early age I was influenced by a card cheat who introduced me to some sleights and con-techniques. I spent years developing a wide range of deceptions, from sleight-of-hand to memory training. When I took my skills to the casinos, I was quickly found and banned for life. This led me to back room poker games where I was able to make a short living. Eventually, an exposed cheating technique landed me in a wheelchair for 6-months. Through my recovery magic found me, and the rest is history.

To me this seems to be a bunch of crappolla. Although I enjoy his style very much I think the public is being deceived with this sort of marketing ploy about his persona! Don't believe everything you read boiz!

D expects this from magicians, as do I as there are so many magicians out there who say 'i used to be a cheat' most of whom wouldn't have a single clue about it, most magicians think 'this is a good back-story that makes me look better at what i do.' This is also one of the most annoying things about magic for D, he almost lost his life and has many scars to prove it, he has no reason to lie to you about his past, if it wasn't for his past as a cheat you wouldn't know about him right now, yet people think it's a 'story' as nobody has actually ever met or heard of an ex-cheat before D, mainly because it's not something ex-cheats are proud of or want anybody to know about as it is illegal.
I am somewhat responsible for d's decision to share his past, he hid away from it and it affected his life in a big way, i showed him how to use his past as his art... as opposed to hiding it behind magic he uses it for magic.
If magicians knew the truth about real cheating they wouldn't use it as a backstory , it's in no way glamorized or clever or what anybody thinks, its dangerous and hard work. If D could deceive his public that easy he'd be the Priminister of The United States of Kingdom.
I'm sure D will be replying to this post and will hopefully post some pic's of the scars! (which include a bullet-wound on his right hand)

also who cares if someone is underground or not, or if a trick is said to be underground. If you see, hear or learn of a trick and you like it, buy it (assuming the price is reasonable) people put to much focus and importance on labels. get back to basics and what brought you into magic. Do it for the love of the hobby and the love of the reactioins and feelings you get when doing or seeing magic

Seriosuly, our spectators really don't care about any of this, as long as they are entertained by our magic.

I would like to his scars. I never thought of it that way.

Same, honestly if someone just wants to be a stubborn jerk, then let them. I honestly don't need to see pictures of his scars. Danny shouldn't have to waste his time trying to convince some guys on the computer that he was actually a card cheat.

P.S. I have his DVD Lethal and he seems to be a Blaine wannabe. The parts where he is fainting after doing the Balducci levitation and moving a bottle of Jim Beam with his mysterious mind was just really childish! !

Finally, someone who is not kissing up! I don't need to see any scars. I have scars too. I have been banged up in motocycle racing crashes, I have been stabbed, jumped by 5 guys, you name it. I grew up in some tough streets, but I wont flaunt my scars! Don't tell Daniel to do that, then I would really loose respect for him!

I think that by becoming more mainstream, he is opening up a far better situation for himself. Before he was not as well known, and it became harder and harder to get his products. but now that he is more mainstream he is getting much more fame and cash for his awsome effectrs.

One of the problems of online forums, is that its extremely easy to make assumptions and share gossip.

I still cannot understand the reason behind asking for proof for the card cheating thing. We're in a magic forum, talking with magicians, not reporters asking celebs on proofs about an "interesting" period of their life. ( mind you, "interesting" to other people, card cheating is not always about pleasant memories )

Many cardmen have a card cheating experience, and some of them used to do it to put food on the table, its not like this is a new thing at all.

Not surprisingly, many cheats hate magicians, because they aren't seeing the level of commitment they want to see. Just compare a magician palming cards to cheats holding out cards. But hey, cheats read to pay, magicians read to play.

Fortunately, not all magicians are like that, respect for card technique and mastering them still exist.

As for this thread, I find it rather pointless and showing immaturity and having waay too much time to think of this stuff.

Woah. The sheer amount of rudeness coming from you both is astounding. How about showing some maturity. Copperfield, cursing in your threads doesn't make you seem intelligent, is makes you seem like a child. You should be able to get your point across without the need for all the profanity. Posts like these are why people do not feel welcome. Webtech is entitled to his opinion as much as you two are to yours. If you cant come to terms that this is a web forum where people can freely express ideas, thanks for participating, you know where the exit is.
