Quality, Time, Effort

More and more threads are starting to pop up lately with young magicians filming their creations and variations. Its nice to see some fresh ideas, but it is kind of upsetting that so little time is put in.

I cant count how many times i click a link to a video titled, "my new effect please comment!" Even if the trick has potential, it is lost in the stumbling over bad patter and fumbling with the cards and coins. Then the video is removed after harsh comments and criticisms.

I think the issue is that new magicians want to all make the next big trick and sell it and become zillionaires or some other crazy fantasy. A lot of times I wonder how good the trick could have been if some more time was put in. If you are going to spend all the time creating something new, make it stand out, polish every single move and sleight. No one is going to pay the slightest attention if you dont put the proper effort in.

so just a little food for thought, before you post that next video, make sure it is as close to perfection as it possibly can be. every trick you see being released has years of work put into it. This doesn't mean you have to sell the effect, but make your videos as if you were.

Another thing I will add is, (to do with the actual presentation)

"But I don't have a camera im not rich like u guys someday i will have1 but till then i use my wbcam"

(mildly exageratted for my own humour)

THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE

If you do not own a camera, borrow one. Borrow one from your school department, from a friend, parent's friend. Everyone nowadays has access to a camera.

If it is still not a relatively good quality one, fret not.

It's called creativity. Before you film the godspawn that is your new creation - think about:

1) Lighting - How will my lighting conditions affect picture quality?

2) Location - Location location location. The more effort you put into location, the merrier the viewing experience. No matter how bad the cardstuffs is.

3) Music - It's not about what YOU want, it about what the FILM needs.

4) Whatever it is, would you be proud to show it to your peers? I mean the real ones, the ones who can critique you for as long as they live because they know where you live?

We can all think creatively if we try thinking.

I can sum this thread up to:

Think, Think and Think some more.

i agree with you too. Also, some kids i think just put up the video before they even look at it to see if it is good. i mean what difference would it make if you put it up at an hour later and you corrected the video so it is perfect. just my idea . good thread
