He never said he didn't think people died Mitchell. He simply said "Another death?", you know, of a famous face. Jesus, you act like he's suprised people die at all.

But hey, if you wanna keep track... http://www.worldometers.info/. (Not sure how accurate it is, but it's fun to take a peek sometime.)

Apparently people die every second or two, hm.

Heart goes to his family.

That's somewhat depressing.

But yeah man, he was speaking of celebrity deaths.

some may find this offensive but it has to be said...

who cares?
at least michael jackson did something for this world lol
billy mays?
just some infomercial guy...

its sickening how people get so sad over every person who dies that is somewhat known.

he sold have garbage products during comercials of the french porn movie your watching at 3am.

Like us magicians, or any professional for that matter, Billy was at the top of his game. It just so happens that his game was marketing and sales. That isn't an easy field to get into let alone be revered as as much of an expert as he was.

I wouldn't be so quick to desensitize the loss of human life on this thread. Just because you didn't know him, or he didn't do any thing special for you, doesn't make his passing any less significant (for someone.) It's like if your own father passed. It could be said that no one here would care. Truth be told, I doubt they would. However that doesn't mean we should all post messages saying "quit crying and move on." or the like.

Really, is a little compassion just too much to ask for around here? Or is the anonymity of the internet that un-inhibiting for you to be a jerk and still live with yourself afterwords?

I wasn't aware we were rating deaths based on how important we judged the people to be. I'll remember that next time some close family dies. Hell, they're not even "somewhat known," shouldn't matter at all to me, right?

The age-range of this forum is really showing.

And, wow, it's "sickening" that some people are getting sad that a fellow human being died? And according to your logic, had Billy Mays been more famous - been a singer, like Michael Jackson, was more relevant in pop culture - THEN it's okay to care?

It's about general compassion and empathy for people who have to go through this. No, none of us personally knew Billy Mays. Were he still alive, he wouldn't be in our thoughts right now. But the man is dead, and his family is grieving. Someone lost a father, a husband, and a son, and that is a horrible thing. No one's asking you to cry a river about it, or even give your sympathies. But please act like a human being and understand what people are going through right now, regardless of who he was.

I haven't read any of this thread, and I don't want to get into an argument, but let me just say:

I shall miss Billy Mays a lot more than Michael Jackson.

Well I don't know about anyone else, but I can respect honesty more than hollow sympathy's.

Thank you.

You don't gotta thank me for anything man, but you're welcome just the same.

I do what I do cause I do it...
(Edit: I'm gonna put that in my signature, haha.)

Billy Mays was a hero. To a young boy who would one day want to become a pitchman, to a seasoned buisnessman who looked back at how great Billy Mays impacted on his life.

Maybe he didn't impact your life, but he did to others. Worlds not only about yourself Phenomena...

It is certainly sad to hear of anyone dying so young. I think Billy was 50 or so and amazingly, he was at an infancy stage of a very succesful career. I saw an episode of "Pitchmen" where he and his partner, can't remember his name, mentored a young 16 year old kid who had invented a spot removing product. They even gave the kid a few thousand dollars to help start up his invention. Pretty cool.

You could tell Billy had an amazing talent for reaching out to people and persuade them to buy his product. He became known as the Oxy Clean guy. Can you imagine Billy being a magician and pitching his wares at a magic convention? R.I.P. Billy.

What I have got from this thread so far:

Mitchell is a bleeding heart.

AdJones is awesome.

Joshua likes to make dumb posts.

And you guys can't even pay respects to someone who has made something of himself and helped a lot of peoples everyday problems. Tisk, Tisk, Tisk.

Agreed.

Until Michael called me moments ago, I did not open this thread. When I heard from a few people that this thread was a little wacked, I opened it. Wow.

Let's just try to show some respect? I was originally going to lock it, but I don't want to be so quick. So can we please just from this post forward pay a little respect? Normally off topic threads are supposed to be locked, but there are some that should stay open despite the fact they are off topic. I think this is one of those threads.

Ok, this thread is about to get locked. Can we please just have some maturity?

This is a magic forum. It is for advancing magic, and nothing else. There would be an off topic section if this kind of thing was for discussion here.

There are plenty of places to make tributes and things to people beside this forum, like FACEBOOK.

Yes this forum is for magic but we do cover other topics i.e. acting, presentation, performing arts etc... And Billy Mays was a performer as you are not born with great pitching skills. I do not want to get into a fight but please get informed before you make an idiotic and totally uncalled for negative post. Also http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?t=19914 that only proves my point even further.

-Michael

P.S. Don't make another post trying to argue as you will only look more like a man on an electric chair gasping for those last few breathes before finally getting put to rest.

EDIT: Joshua has pmed and and admitted that I was right. I figured I'd let you all know that we have no bad blood.
