Some things to remember when using the wire

Hello everyone,
The Wire is a wonderful tool for magicians. A couple months ago I had one
of my effects accepted on the Wire. It has been a good experience but there
have been a few surprises on the way.

I hope this doesn't sound too redundant as all of the information that I'll
talk about is available in other places on the site. Here's a small list of
some things on the Wire that might go unnoticed by those new to it. Also I
have placed a few clarifications as well

1. I'd like to clarify the date of billing. I released my effect within the
first days of November and so I expected to recieve it the 11th of that
month. Not so.

The billing statement is sent out for the sales of the previous month. That
is on November 11th you recieve the sales report of all the sales that
happened during October. The report covers one month at a time, the 1st to
the 30th/31st, not the 11th to the 11th as one might believe.

2. Second, I'd like to explain what it takes to have a price changed once
the effect is released.

Pehaps in the future this process will change but as it is it is a bit less
conveient then you might think. There is no button or switch. In order to
change the prices on your effect you need to contact a moderator. I had to
do this for my effect when I tried to put it on sale the day after
Thanksgiving. I had to communicate what I wanted to do in an email.
Unfortunatley in my case it proved a bit difficult. Through an error of
communication or processing time my effect wasn't put on sale till about 2
days after I specified. The communication that must take place is something
to keep in mind when changing your prices

3. Something small is the state of the report you recieve. It gives a
total of the sales made during the month. If you expected graphs or
detailed statements you will not find it here. The report is minimalistic,
it gives the number of sales acheived, the dollar amount raised and the
amount the artist will recieve. No more. If the artist wants more details
they must contact theory11.

4. You might be curious to know what the Dashboard looks like when you have
an effect up on the wire. It gives small statistics, views per day, week
and month. There is no indication of sales on the dashboard. When I
recieved my statement I found out that about .5 percent of the views I
recieved for my effect equaled how many sales I had that month. I'm sure it
is different for evereyone but this may be helpful to some.

5. You will not recieve a check in the mail until you exceed $50 in sales.
This was a surprise to me. It was pointed out to me that it is clearly
mentioned in the terms of service. It might be benifitial to set your price
as high or low as you need to actually acheive at least $50. for instance
if you sell you effect for 99 cents you'll want to make sure you sell
enough to make your self $50 or more. Of course you'll want to account for
the 60% that you recieve in this.

I hope that helps those who enter the Wire a bit and clears up some of the
mystery.
thanks,
Josh
