Working as a Magician on a Cruise Ship!

I went on a cruise a few months back, so I get the lifestyle a bit haha. But anyway, how often did you perform? Was it just during the dinner or did you walk around during the day? How did you handle being away from friends and family for 9 months? What excursions/attractions are paid for for...

    Gig Reflection

Exactly, I'll have to get some short sleeved button downs and a nice pair of flat fronts haha. I agree, especially when the kid's probably don't care about any real meaning in the effects. Oh well, live and learn.

Getting Quotes and Sending Thank You Cards

I should definitely start doing that then. Sending me that would be great, thanks!

    Gig Reflection

No, I'm not trying to copy Rick here haha, but I feel like even though I'm not a "pro" at kid's birthday's yet, I still feel like people can take away something from my experience as well, because I sure did. My gig was 1:00, outside, in the heat. I was wearing pants, a button down, a vest...

Getting Quotes and Sending Thank You Cards

Great advice! I'll definitely look into this. I don't have the personal address of the client from Saturday's show, but in the future this is definitely an option. Thanks!

    Is this an original trick?

I've seen some professionals, when explaining a move they are using, say "I know so-and-so has something similar to this, but I came up with this independently of him." It seems if you make a move on your own without prior knowledge of someone else creating it, it's yours? Another dilemma there...

    Misdirection

Most of the time, they will look where you look, or direct them to look. I went to an Aaron Fisher Lecture and when he started explaining how an effect was done, he pointed out the moments when he basically said "hey, look waaaay over there!" and we all obeyed. When you have someone select a...

Fair enough, thank you for the help!

Draven Reviews: Solitary by Cameron Francis

Score! For 20 bucks it seems like a fair price. Would it be worth it to hand them out as a gift though? Giving them something to hold onto afterwards usually seems worth the sacrifice. What would the difference in set up be then?

Draven Reviews: Solitary by Cameron Francis

Thank you for the review! This looks perfect for table hopping, how is the reset time? Pretty instant?

    College Majors

I took a year off after graduating high school to work on my magic business and make some money, and pretty much everyone I have talked to has said it was a good idea to make some money and get some real world working experience. I plan on attending school next year, but the major is a big thing...

    Audience Understanding (Part Two)

I like this. Not just for this effect, but magic as a whole. It's our job to lead them down the path of wonder, but if they get lost along the way, the effect is not as strong and it is our fault for not guiding them until it is finished.

    Phantom (and a cool story!)

Awesome, that sounds like a great experience! Congrats on finding that magic club! I was able to do some magic when my high school did Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We made the disappearance of Mike Teavee more like an illusion and it was awesome!

Angle issues with a move in DG's ".44"

If you watch what Danny does, he asks a question with the cards to be switched face up and has the person hold out their hand, THEN he does the switch. Don't make it a move, just do it in an offbeat. Their brain is focused on filling out your command, so they are not looking for a move.

    Chop Cup

You can find your own final load, or make your own routine with it. But each to his own then.

    Chop Cup

I would suggest getting Craig Petty's "Chop". You can do stuff with that that you can only dream of doing with an ordinary chop cup.

    Last Minute Gig...Success!

Thanks guys! Rick, that's the plan haha. The people who live in that area are pretty wealthy, so I can probably charge more and not feel bad haha. Luis: Exactly, those two effects I do all the time, so I wasn't worried about not being prepared. Thanks for commenting!
