    Social Media Magic?

There's not a ton of money in it so it's definitely a labor of love. I have had a successful You Tube channel and have worked with some of the most successful magicians on social media as well. Even the best usually have another job. Creating good content is tough and needed! Best of luck

What are Your Top 5 Coin Vanishes?

I got to see Brandon and Eric work live, they rock. Video doesn't do them justice. Brandon was showing me a ditch for one of his effects and it was so slick I couldn't follow it. He kept misdirecting me!

Considering making a deck, got some questions

This post covers exactly what I would say. I prefer matte finishes on boxes mostly. Anyone can make a deck look cool. It is tough to make a deck that is completely functional. With anything that you design try to make it function better then other cards on the market. Nocs are cool because...

Help! Does anyone know a way to learn magic for free besides YouTube?

I contacted a local magician and asked if they attended any clubs. I found out about 4 monthly meetings that meet within 2 hours of my house and magic is not very popular in my area. Some clubs have Facebook pages or other websites but really the best thing has been word of mouth for me.

    Need help with trick, explanation?

Yep, that's what I meant. I just saw Magick Balay's version advertised on Penguin and thought of this thread. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/7418

    Needle Swallowing

I use the cheapest pack of needles at a place like Joan's Fabrics. I think I've even purchased them at Walmart. The pack comes with a whole bunch of different sizes, the longest ones don't work for me. I usually use the shorter ones ad am very comfortable. The pack looks like this: If you can...

How Do You Practice a Pickpocket Act?

I drape a jacket over a chair, to practice. I know some people use mannequins. The best way is to practice on a friend, just run through the motions a few hundred times. After that, use a routine to hide it. Greg Wilson uses a which hand coin routine. I use a cards across routine. You just need...

Help! Does anyone know a way to learn magic for free besides YouTube?

The library! 793.8 in the adult and children's section. I still find new stuff. Check out your local magic club. Other magicians may have old books they are getting rid of and most clubs have a library.

HELP: How can I order magic learning material for a beginner?

Many sites will still take checks. Paypal can be connected with a bank account. Worst comes to worst if you love magic, try making magic with what you do have available right now.

    Need help with trick, explanation?

It really doesn't have much to do with Peter's ACAAN on either of his Penguin lectures although the method could be re-purposed for this effect. I feel like you were probably talking about an effect accomplished with a nudist deck or a variation on the snowstorm plot.

    Gig Tips

Going to the local magic meetings has helped. Sometimes there are opportunities to perform for or with the club. Other magicians will also offer gigs from time to time that they cannot make. I have used a handful of Gigging sites and have found them to be just about useless. I can't crack them...

    Break

The bluff vanish in conjunction with a pile of loose change will work to switch in the gimmick. This is almost completely self working in that regard, to put it into perspective my 2 year old niece can perform the sleight perfectly. You then can break the penny with nothing in your hands at all...

    TicTac Movemint?

Huh? I wonder what's up. In speaking with some of the artists that have worked with Paul Harris he is known for being very picky and taking a long time to bring products out. I assume this is the issue, but I really don't know.

    Departure by Chris Smith

To paraphrase Larry Jennings, "Every magic trick has a discrepancy". Something must give in order to do a trick, there's no real magic out there. Departure is a solid gimmick, it has proven itself long before Theory11 started to offer it.

how do you use card shuffles without damaging cards

I have some deacks that art in excellent condition that are years old. As technique improves the life of the deck does as well. One thing that helps is to put a deck away after you use it for a while and switch. This gives your old decks a moment to relax.

    penguin and the marketplace

A few weeks after Theory11 released the Wire (Now known as the Marketplace) Penguin released their Penguin Partner program. Anyone can create a profile at Penguin but the submission process is not the same as Theory11. Theory11 has made it very easy to create an a account but they have a...

5 Interesting Facts About Playing Cards

There are only 2 layers of paper in a playing card. The glue that holds the 2 layers together is often confused with a third layer of paper. If you soak a card in water the paper comes apart at the glue. If you split cards "dry" they don't split at the glue, the paper actually splits leaving...

"Do you know how he did it?"

Michael Ammar had a similar experience that he relayed at a lecture a little while ago. I usually respond by bringing up how much I love the magician in question. "Do you know how Matt Franco made Mel B's phone apear in the chair?" "Oh you know Matt Franco, he's great isn't he? One of my...
