    Misdirection for Mercury Card Fold

Wow, I didn't know there was so much behind this move, thanks everyone! Reality-I get what you mean now, I practiced a bit and see how the squaring action aids in the folding, but I always seem to get a "click" from the back of the card on the deck during the first fold. I watched the Tommy...

Over coming the fear of performing in public.

That's why one should have key points to hit, not an entire script. For a stage show, yes it should probably be scripted fully, but for street/table hopping just hitting the lines and points you want to get across are good, and the rest can come from the spontaneity (or lack thereof) of each new...

    Misdirection for Mercury Card Fold

Awesome thanks for the advice everyone! Beans, that's really good advice, thanks! Reality: When you say squaring the deck, should the second fold be done in that time as well? Do you raise the deck up a little bit? I know they won't be burning your hands, but still too much movement can...

    Misdirection for Mercury Card Fold

When performing this move, what misdirection do you guys use? Looking at them and talking doesn't seem to be viable because there is a lot of movement on your hands part? What resources would you recommend for learning this move?

What decks have you been using lately?

Yeah I get that. I'm not knocking custom cards, because I'll fiddle with them every now and then. But for performances, I stick with Tallys or Bikes. I'll probably order some Monarchs and Aristocrat's soon (mainly for points for the holiday contest haha) but also they'll be nice to see on my shelf.

    Magic as a Career

Some people just have the right things fall in place for them. Luke Jermay was very fortunate in the beginning of his career to have the right people and resources around him, but he still worked to get in that position for those people to recognize him. If you work hard enough, you'll have a...

This is probably my favorite video of the ones you sent out. Completely inspiring.

What decks have you been using lately?

True, custom cards can handle better. I'm not saying I don't have any, because I have quite a decent amount of custom cards. At school it wasn't a problem to have custom cards when performing for friends because it was casual and they were just like "oh those are cool!" but when I'm performing...

Larry Fong Performs on Set of Super 8

Absolutely fried. The soda can one was really amazing, I haven't seen that before.

What decks have you been using lately?

Currently, it's Tally's. But I normally just use Bikes. Most gaffs come in bicycles, they are familiar to an audience, and just feel like quality. If I pull out my Guardians, I feel like their just gonna be like "trick cards." I've stopped buying custom decks because I feel they really are not...

Garrett Thomas lecture last night in Ohio

Congrats Rick! That's awesome, I hope he comes down to Tennessee soon. I've seen Greg Wilson, Geoff Williams, and Wayne Houchin lecture and they all were phenomenal. I love coming home after a lecture and just being so amazed and fortunate I got to experience what I just did. Thanks for sharing!

Over coming the fear of performing in public.

Agreed, after he influenced me to of course, wearing a girdle and doing the chicken dance. Anyway, for someone just starting to do performances for strangers, I honestly wouldn't worry too much about what type of character you are. For your first few, just getting the effects right is hard...

    Luke Jermay Interview

Dang man, that's awesome! I'm not totally into mentalism (maybe the odd effect here and there) but hearing about his first paid gig, how he got his show, and he things kind of fell in place for him was interesting to hear. He also gave good advice on you still have to work for it, and his talk...

    Thank God I Wasn't A Magician

Haha that was fantastic! He actually talked about some valid points too, especially hecklers who attempt to ruin it for themselves, that's really funny. Thanks for sharing!

    Magic as a Career

William, thank you for the advice! I already work in a restaurant (paid by them, and get tips) but I'm looking for other places to perform currently. I definitely need to work on my act, I have tons of stuff I plan on using since I bought it specifically for my act. I just need to sit down, look...

    Magic as a Career

There is tons of great insight on here! I have a question relating to things being said here. Benji, you said you charge no less for 1,000$ a gig and won't turn back, I know that Rick does primarily kid's shows, where 1,000$ seems more than not out of the question. So my question is, what is the...
