10 Things to Say to Improve Your Performance

@ChristopherT, @Bliff and @Lord Magic - I was being sarcastic. I don't think you should actually say any of those things in a performance. Some of these are cliche but most of them are crutches that magicians rely upon without thinking that really don't work. Let's take them one at a time...

10 Things to Say to Improve Your Performance

    10. See, all of the cards are different. 9. The deck is completely shuffled. 8. That was a completely free selection. 7. Do you want to change your mind? 6. That is fair, isn't it? 5. This card represents you. 4. Let's recap what happened.... 3. It is a completely ordinary...

He lost me at "all these cards are absolutely different."

The Problem With Magic And The Internet

I think it is all relative. Here is a rough scale from best to worst. 1. Someone studied the topic and put their learning into practice for years. 2. Someone who has lots of experience and has been successful 3. Someone who has some experience and a lot of study 4. Someone who has a lot of...

    What Is This Trick?

I think the name of the effect is "LUCK." The name you need to memorize here is Juan Tamariz.

Mastermind Deck vs. One Way Force?

My guess is that the Monet Cristo Deck consisted of 52 individually constructed gaff cards (thus explaining the high cost of the deck) where the Mastermind Deck is printed.

Things you can say about your deck of cards...... But not your best friend

From the back they all look the same but if you look at their faces you will see they all are different.

    Stage Magic Routine

Some card tricks , if presented right, can play to bigger audiences such as tossed out deck, invisible deck and cards across. That said, based on the other effects you are talking about the card tricks won’t fit in with the feel of the show unless you use them as a change of pace. @jasonkillsx...

Things you can say about your deck of cards...... But not your best friend

I’ve got a group of perfectly ordinary friends. Pick one any one. Do you like that one or would you like to pick a different one? OK, show everyone else which one you picked but don’t let me see. Now put him back in the group and shuffle them around so there is no way I can guess which one you...

    CONNECTIONS

There are some good internet magic forums that are very welcoming to younger members. :) You might want to connect with some of the younger guys on those forums or even better if they reach out to you. [HINT].

    Tricks with marked decks

The key to using a marked deck is to disguise the method so that it doesn’t looks like you are using a marked deck. There also is a booklet that you can buy to accompany the Ultimate Marked Deck that is good.

The Problem With Magic And The Internet

For an in-depth discussion of the issue, click here: https://www.theory11.com/forums/threads/is-exposure-a-significant-problem-in-magic.50483/ I think that covers most of the responses you get if you continue along this line of argument. I figured referencing that thread was better than...

    Stage Magic Routine

So my first thought is that those effects really don't work together. a rope routine and a silk routine seem like "all ages" magic and the bullet catch and flaming canvas routine seem more adult oriented. To give you some good advice tailored to your abilities and style, it would be helpful...

    Tricks with marked decks

There is a book called Hidden in Plain Sight by Kirk Charles. It looks like you can get it from Kirk Charles website for around $20 with shipping and at M&R Games for around $16 with shipping. He also has DVDs on the subject. Also see the effects in these books...

    Good books for mentalism

@ChristopherT - I had forgot to list Switchcraft. Great resource. @tomer132 - Cassidy’s Fundamentals does give guidance on presentation in the context of mentalism. @Nick Verna - Fulves is a great start to learn some methods and ideas. I think that we may have different approaches to...

Bullet Party and Other Packet Tricks!

Hmmmm. "Wicked" does use four queens and a indifferent card. You could use Jacks, but it would sort of ruin the recommended Wizard of Oz presentation with "Good" and "Bad" Witches (Queens) in the book. Nonetheless, you at least now know that none of the cards are that difficult go get...

Bullet Party and Other Packet Tricks!

The cards are the same as for Royal Scam. I looked again and Short Attention Scam isn’t listed. I can’t come up with thirteen cards based on the listed effects. I’m puzzled. Nonetheless, other than blank faced cards, aces and jokers - I don’t think there is anything special about the 13 cards.

    Performing?

Hey Bigshot! I watched a couple of your videos and you have a good speaking voice and are developing good skills! Keep up the good work. As for performing, definitely try to perform more. Performing for your parents and siblings are great. My advice is to pick your three best effects...

    Good books for mentalism

Start with : Anneman's Practical Mental Magic has a lot of great routines in it, but was written in the 1940s so it's language is a bit dated but the methods are the classics. It is around $13. Fulves's Self Working Mental Magic - Don't be fooled by the title, this has a lot of good stuff...
