When card tricks go wrong.... :(

I'm glad I got to see it before it was removed. I think your performance was well done. Nice overhand shuffle work and I liked the use of the anti-faro.

My egg bag routine that tells the story of a young girl living alone with her mother in France during World War 2 and a German Sergeant.

    Invisible Deck questions/issues

I don't apply any pressure to the cards when spreading the deck, rather I push the cards over using my left thumb. To show the reversed card, I contact the bottom of that card with the second and third fingers of the left hand. I've never heard of using felt cloth on the deck where the pairs...

Thoughts on WOW 2.0 by Masuda?

The reason I never bought it is.... that exactly. And the fact that the guy demonstrating it for me at a magic shop was selling a knock-off version (there is a reason that shop is no longer around).

    Start learning hypnosis

Like a self-induced hypnotic trance. I can vouch that Christopher knows his stuff both in theory and practice. I haven't gotten up the courage to let him hypnotize me, mainly because I'm afraid he can actually do it.

    Books really necessary?

Yes and no. Either extreme isn't a good option. Performing without sufficient practice of technical skils and sufficient rehersal of presentation is asking for a disaster. Practicing and rehearsing without performing doesn't allow you to learn performance skills such as audience management...

    Books really necessary?

@Mem I think I understand what you are saying. Art of Astonishment presumes you know the moves and the explanations aren't that good. To be honest AoA and even the True Astonishment DVDs (10% of the effects and twice the cost) don't teach the moves very well. As a result, I have the full...

    Sub rosa

Knowing what I do about Jason he would include that. Knowing what I do about Sub Rosa, the method is briefly discussed in Marlo Magazine #5, Cervon's Castle Notebooks. It is also be mentioned in J.H. Johnson's The Open Book and Forte's Poker Protection series. A lot of what Jason knows and...

    "Behind the back" card trick

It could be... but I'm not sure why you would do that. My sense is that if you do something behind the spectator's back, there should be a reason related to the design of the effect. Cites to Bannon and Carey? When you say spectator cut then shuffle, I'm thinking Encyclopedia of Card Trick...

Any Good Books For Stage Magic?

Mark Wilson's Compete Course in Magic has some great stage illusions that are easy to make. As mentioned, there are also some illusions in Tarbell. Andrew Mayne has two good books, Illusiontech and Illusion book. A good place if you are looking for classic illusions would be the books, DVDs...

    "Behind the back" card trick

The cleanist method is Election by Eric Ross. The plot he uses is two spectators with two decks, but it works the same with a similar deck. The method is amazingly simple but if you want to do this effect, it is worth the price. Other Ideas: Khardova Deck by Jim Steinmeyer - Genii, May 2010...

    Acme Hole

I would phrase it, "this is what happens when we make magic about "easy-to-perform, hyper-visual, organic, mind-blowing, killer, how the $#!% did you do that" tricks rather than about knowledge and application of that knowledge to make your own magic." That's why I like books -- the material...

Your Favorite Way to Control a Card to the Top

Thanks for all the responses. Keep them comming. I'm actually spending some time this weekend researching all of them as well as others. The Cherry Control looks really good. The spread cull type controls don't work for me because the card doesn't come to the top. I agree with Christopher...

    Where can I find duplicates?

So you have 3 decks -- one you use to perform and get the dupes from the other 2 decks. You can do the effect 52 times. Typically, stores don't sell one-way force decks other than Bicycle because there isn't the demand.
