Brutal Facts about Booking Gigs - Marketing tip

Benji, Could you maybe explain a little more about the Hotel Crashing please. Do you look for local hotels that are hosting events and basically show up and "hope" you don't need a name tag or some form of ID to get in? Especially if you have a friend with you with a cam corder I could see...

Brutal Facts about Booking Gigs - Marketing tip

If you have a $200 budget you can go with a Sony Handy Cam, which is what I use but it only works well with sufficient lighting. It gets very grainy when in dimly lit rooms, bars, etc. Also keep in mind that if it is windy outside the internal mic pics up all of the wind and it sounds like crap...

Brutal Facts about Booking Gigs - Marketing tip

Benji, I can tell by your words that you are a highly motivated and "driven" man. Hence...the results that you are getting. Thanks again for the info. Top notch! Believe it or not I have seen on more than one occasion, magicians do exactly what you said with a camcorder. They go to Best Buy...

    My new website

Wow....love every bit of it except positioning of the links as mentioned by limp. It seems a bit odd to have them on the right side. Can this be changed or are you "locked" into a template that won't let you put them on the top or left? I really like the color scheme and the attitude of it...

    Best magic for disabled children

I've done two shows for people exactly how you are describing. I kept things very simple and used rope, spongeballs, silks with a Thumb Tip, Square Circle, Rising Card Deck, Traffic Light Cards, etc. Mainly effects that do not require more than 30 seconds to 1 minute of attention. Do not get...

Studying Advice...I need some serious help

Bending, I was just like you about 2 years ago. I had SOOOOO much stuff I didn't even know where to begin because I am a very bad impulsive buyer as well. Many times it was just because I "had" to know how the effect worked because it just fooled the crap out of me or I trully saw myself...

Penn and Teller show In Vegas

Hey fellas, I just bought floor seats, 8 rows back in the dead center for Penn and Teller's show in Vegas. Has anyone seen this show? I'm hoping my guests and I will be in for a treat. I'm really excited.

Book Recommendation - "Sleights of Mind"

http://www.sleightsofmind.com/ This book is not for a young or new student in magic. It is very heavy into how our brains process magic and how effects fool us time and time again. It is by far one of my top 3 magic books for all time right now. Up there with Strong Magic and Maximum...

    Hidden Gems

If everyone posts their "hidden gems" then they aren't so "hidden" anymore now are they. Ha Ha. Then everyone will go look them up and want to start performing them. I will just say that most of my hidden gems are found in old Linking Ring magazines from the 70's. There are many great effects...

    Poster Ideas

I like Number 4, the one your mom likes but I'm with Matt on this one. You don't need Magician and Entertainer. One or the other. The other thing I don't like is...Sleight of Hand By.... I dont think you really need a title and the word By....just sounds like you are writing a theme paper or...

    Homemade Close-Up Mat..

Why make one when you can find a plethora of them in shops everywhere ranging from cheap to udderly expensive. By the time you buy materials you might be saving about 10 bucks tops. Just my two cents.

Marketing… what do you want to know?

Sure Benji. What types of thing would you put in a promotional packet? And if you do not have a ton of cash to spend on the packet...what are the 3 crucial items to include? Follow up: How many packets do you have made and to whom do you send them out to? I don't want to just blindly send 100...

    Special Gaff

I made my own very easily using the DVD that Reality One mentioned. If flies right by everyone when in performance. Don't get me wrong though...it took a few tries until I got that knack of card splitting.
