    first b-day party

Reservoir is correct. I ran into this problem 2 years ago. I only charged "friends" and neighbors a $50.00 rate and that hurt me when many...many...more calls came and they wanted the same $50.00 price tag for a show that I now charge $125.00 for. I had to turn a few of them down and tell them...

    Copyrights and Business Cards

I know many people who hold cards in promo shots and such. Most of the time they have them in a nice fan with the faces out so it doesn't even matter what the backs look like.

    How to promote yourself

Promoting myself to where I am now has NOTHING to do with shooting videos of myself and posting on youtube or online at all for that matter. WORD OF MOUTH travels like wildfire in your hometown. See Jaimie's thread. Every gig I do, I make sure I blow them away, GIVE THEM "more than what they...

    Thoughts?

The effect was so so but yeah...delete the music out altogether on this performance so we can here the patter / presentation. One weakness of the effect is that you don't flash both sides of the card when you take it from the wallet.

How To Promote Yourself- Essay #12 from Jamie D. Grant

I was just going to reaffirm Jamie's thought on this thread as well. Word of mouth is how I get 90 percent of my gigs. Yes I give out tons of business cards after every gig and have a website, but WORD OF MOUTH is powerful and travels quickly.

    How many tricks

Jamie's thread is a must read. I will also just quickly add that it is very beneficial to break your magic effects up into sets of 3-4. That way at any moments notice you have 3-4 effects that you perform regularly in that exact order for a possible client or audience. Then I hand out my...

    The Illusionist

Craig is actually right fellas. Many...many...laymen know of both and some have even played / messed around with both. Don't you remember Night at the Museum where a thumb tip is exposed as well? You can purchase invisible thread tricks like the moving worm at any festival, flea market, etc.

    JAQK Cards

I think this is the trend we are starting to see with some custom deck releases. Everyone hoards them and then just resells them on ebay for a few bucks more per deck and many people that didn't get the chance here...actually buy them. I will not reveal my source...ha ha...but I just found 10...

New Business Card Design - Thoughts Needed

Zenn...that is what I was going to recommend. Just pay someone to create a nice one for you that is a graphic artist. That is what I did and I love it. Luckily it only ran me $30.00 for the template and I can alter it on my own to make variations / changes. It was some one here and for the life...

    Business card tricks?

I read about it once in my Close lecture notes but never tried it. I'll have to attempt it sometime. Hot leads for me was a waste. I hated smelling like lighter fluid in my hands and suit coat pockets.

New Business Card Design - Thoughts Needed

Benji, thanks for posting that info. Very informational and I took some good ideas from it. Josh, I agree with what some of your parents said, your cartoon head does a very nice job of representing you to as a "kids" performer as I do plenty of kid birthday parties as well... The thing I...

New Business Card Design - Thoughts Needed

Josh..I am going to be honest and say it doesn't look very professional at all. You need something "clean" looking. Your second one is very cluttery / busy looking. Your logo even though it represents you, looks amateur. The quote on the front being like David Blaine seems cheesy to me as well...

You'll love him. Saw him at Magi Fest. He is hilarious and very talented. Have fun!

    Business card tricks?

The Out to Dinner clip is excellent as well as the Ultra Telethought Wallet 2 (a bit pricey) but worth every dollar. I use both of these to give out my business cards at EVERY gig. I will use one or the other not both.

Wowsers....I'm on vacation and just got to this thread. This should be good. Waiting to read a full report as well.

Welcome back Lloyd, look around in each section and you will see a ton of new things here that have been released. You will also notice some new members here and a few of them are VERY knowledgeable guys who have been around the block. Don't be afraid to pick their brains. Craig Browning and...

Started working at a school. Input/advice?

Infected, Great question and I think I can help you as well. Robert covered most of it. Forget doing card tricks unless it is just one or two REALLY cool things that involves some humor. Kids could care less at that age nor will they pay much attention. You want anything that is colorful...

    The Perfect Opener?

Your opener better establish you in the first 10-20 seconds after you approach the table. Sam the bellhop or anything that takes longer than 30 seconds is probably not a good choice. I typically use Warning by Kostya Kimlat or Mismade Bill. Both of these have worked well for me. Both use...
