Yesterday's Gig - Bring on the Rain!

You are correct, and even in my contract I state that if there is rain, where is the event to be held. The client said the garage, but then chose not to clean it out because of the weather being hot and sunny earlier that day. Oh well. In a way I guess it was kind of their fault for not...

Yesterday's Gig - Bring on the Rain!

Benji, Thanks for the reply, nice to have you hear. My predicament is that I am a school teacher Benji and that I book about 75% of my gigs during my summer months off which is June, July and August. I would say every single Birthday party, company picnic, etc. is outdoors because of it being...

    Colored Rubber Bands?

I bulk order mine from a rubber company called Dykema Rubber. They sell me thousands of size 19 yellow brites. They run me about $12.00 per pound bag which is plenty to last you a few years.

The trick that wasn't (the power of perception)

Prae, I get what you are saying...I just failed to address that part of your thread. Yes, by all means we could be and should be using some of the same techniques / strategies in our line of work because it does come off as mental miracles and makes what we do and how we act that much stronger.

Yesterday's Gig - Bring on the Rain!

Hey guys, luckily when I unpacked and checked all of my props everything seemed to be ok except the magic coloring book but mine was about ready to be replaced anyway. My new gig case was a tad wet but it dried out fine and all is well again. Hepdini, anyone can jump in on my threads, I just...

Yesterday's Gig - Bring on the Rain!

Chris, it was a tough call because when I arrived it was hot and sunny out and everyone thought it was ok to do it outside but you are right..ha ha..I couldn't have prevented the rain and so i did what I could. You are correct. You learn something new every time out performing. Luis, you are...

Yesterday's Gig - Bring on the Rain!

So every worker knows that eventually if you perform enough shows, things are going to happen beyond your control. Yesterday I was performing at a 4 year olds birthday party which the client insisted be outdoors and the weather looked fabulous for Ohio weather...ha ha. They wanted a half...

    Parlor effects

Thanks Craig. It's nice to have someone like you on these boards with your vast working knowledge. I'm sure most of you know this is available as well. A lot of the gentlemen in our Ring purchased it and love it. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/2492 I own the Now you See It, Now you Don't books...

    What Camera Do You Use?

Lighting is imperative as well. Outdoor lighting makes a huge difference on my Sony Handycam. I wish I had a better camera but that is what my wife bought me for X-mas and truthfully, I only make DVDs that need to be of high quality about once a year so it doesn't really warrant going out and...

The trick that wasn't (the power of perception)

Reality One is correct with his words. People in sales (who happen to be very good) are excellent at doing what you just described. They can read people "spot on" most of the time because that is what they do all day long while trying to sell their hot item. Think about the last time you went...

    What Camera Do You Use?

I currently use a Sony HandyCam. Pros: It is very tiny and light weight. Fits nicely in the palm of your hand and people around you barely notice you even are recording. It is also inexpensive ($250 or so). Cons: Picture is grainy in dim lit rooms even using the LED mini light that is built in...

    New release tonight...

I guess I just don't get overly excited as some of you. I just continue to use standard cheap bikes for all of my performances. I understand everyone has different feelings about custom and nice cards so I am not bashing. The cards do look intriguing though.

    Where to start?

Just make sure you have it down real well or you might have a gun pointed at your head if you are in the wrong game and mess up. Not so much fun then. I'm not speaking from experience but I know someone who had this happen. Needless to say...he doesn't do it anymore.

What happened to Split Spades Lions?

Split Spades Lions held up for me like no other card. They even handled better and better as they broke in more. Had I known they would all be gone I would have bought a few bricks of them. I have zero decks of them now.

Balloon Sword Swallowing - Geek Magic by Tomas Medina

I've done it a few times. Some have went well and others did not. Send me a PM and I'll see if you are having some of the same difficulty as I did.

    Original rubberband effect?

I have seen a ton of rubber band material before and have not seen that yet, however it is not very difficult to figure out if you do much magic with rubber bands. From a layman's standpoint (which is all that matters anyway) it does look cool.

    Pegasus Farm Gig

Thanks Luis. Yes...the last bit advice was more aimed towards the beginners on here who think you have to have all of the latest and greatest and master sleight of hand. Can I do some of the more difficult sleights and knuckle busters...sure...but there is no need to nor does your audience...

    Pegasus Farm Gig

Hi Fellas, Saturday I performed 3 hours of strolling at an outdoor Farm Park. They had hired me for a their Family Fun Day from 2:00-5:00 PM. There were horse shows, pig races, kiddie jump houses, food booths, etc. I packed the following 3 sets in my pockets. I checked the wind outside...
