This is Magic - Aim High

Haha. I totally get that feeling. That's the stuff that people remember man. I wrote in my essay for Will Draven's contest about how magic forms an image that remains burned in a person's memory, and that collectively, this collage of images, of memories, will help to determine the type of...

Unique Performance Story / Random Question

Ah, that's really interesting. I love the thought that for these guys, observing hand movements would be such a big part of their lives, so to see something like card manipulation...

Conceptions of Mystery by Shane Black

Just wanted to add a quick comment here. Tom is absolutely right and I quite agree with his review. I've only had the chance to have a once-over so far, but will definitely be going over it more. P.I.P.1 and Water of Leaf were highlights for me. I'll evaluate and give my thoughts on them in...

    Fooling a beginner ?

Thank you. Not everyone has lost their minds.

    Thoughts on move monkeys

Not in that sense. Anyone who can type out a thought has the right to do so as long as it is not plainly offensive. I'm more saying that the voices of experience in this case should seek to guide and correct the former, rather than purely criticise due to lack of knowledge.

    ANATE by Dee Christopher

I'll just give a quick and general answer here - because there is a lot more to any effect, and certainly ANATE, than just a single sentence. When you pay for a magic effect, you pay not only for the method. You are paying for its development, for presentation ideas, for subtleties eked out...

Doc Eason's card under glass routine

Without a table, you'd have to load it under something that, obviously, is freestanding. So the most obvious place is under a watch, preferrably the spectator's, or somewhere else on their body.

    Thoughts on move monkeys

Guys, if someone really isn't at the level where what they are saying is even mildly coherent (jr?, anyone?), then that's fair enough. But if people are just relatively inexperienced, then talking through things can't really hurt - but if you feel someone's thinking is on the wrong path, then...

    Improve Your Mind: Contest Details!

So, I checked my email about half an hour ago, very nervously, expecting to find, of all things, an angry email from an ex-girlfriend @.@ Instead, I found this, and it's made my day. Special thanks go to the judges, Doug, reverhart, Morg, and especially Will Draven for coordinating everything...

    Another beginner...

Probably the most advised book, the equivalent of Royal Road or Card College, for coin magic, would be Modern Coin Magic - Bobo.

    Thoughts on move monkeys

I've never been and never will be a move monkey. I definitely accept the valid arguments proposed above. Quite simply, it may be enjoyable, and you never know when you'll find uses, that's all fair enough. I want to throw something out there on a different note though, let me know what you...

How much do you offer for gigs?

Haha! In my opinion, starting magicians, assuming that they are good magicians (simply lacking professional gig experience) can charge a little more than the equivalent after the exchange rate down here, working on the same assumptions. Although having said that, a lot of people undersell...

    The Big Tiny

Well, it depends on the gig. Firstly, assume that we're in the US, so Bikes are cheap. Now, if you're performing a half hour show for a private party, where you get the whole half hour as the focus of the group, then that's perfectly alright. if, on the other hand, you're performing...

This is why I asked about countries... Funny how big the difference is.

    Improve Your Mind: Contest Details!

I agree, but am not surprised. It's very easy to make yourself look all progressive and willing to change - to anonymous users on an internet forum - and a very different thing to take a real step when no-one's watching.

Ah, no, of course not! I didn't mean to shoot it down or anything like that :)

One other thing - can I ask which country you live in? :) I have heard of great differences between countries.

How much do you offer for gigs?

D is right, there are so many different things to consider. I would charge different for walkaround than for a private party, and different for different numbers of people, and time, and the sort of performance expected, etc.
