it is a way of understanding the chances of winning a blackjack game to get alot of money. it is supposed to help u think about how many high and low cards there are and what card u could get next. by finding this out plus by being quick witted you could know the deck in a better perspective. this way, you can know when to hit stand by or double down. there are many systems to use. search on goooooooooooooooogle. ^_^

Ok, i'll being the outsider. Whats card counting?
Basically, it's keeping track of the cards left in a deck during a game of blackjack. Knowing the amount of high or low cards should adjust how you play the game.

Cooro: Fast enough to do it, I suppose? I don't pay attention to trying to achieve the fastest times possible, but rather the quality of my counting (which is pretty much second nature now, anyway). Also, there's an edit button so you can avoid double posts. :)

Do you guys know how impossible it is to card count nowadays? At casinos, they use like 5 decks instead of 1, which makes it impossible.

Actually most use 6. And no, it is not impossible. Although, it has gotten considerably more difficult to do so because of the security measures taken now adays.

I myself don't think it's worth it. But it is quite a controversal subject, as shown here.

how do they know how to catch you???? that doesnt make sense. isnt most of it just pure thoughts and strategy??? it isnt impossible and sometimes security doesnt really pay much attention to some people so counting cards is pretty simple and not all that bad. plus its legal. i still dont get how they can catch you other than u cheating.

plus, why would they catch you if ur just counting??? isnt that impossible?
Your betting system changes, and that would likely be how they catch you. Card counters display certain betting patterns, which are picked up on my security, and out the door you go.

Although, I'm not sure card counting is all that popular anymore, being that they have measures to try to stop that (as mentioned earlier, the shuffling and increased deck amount).

Edit: And again, the edit button. When you consistently double post, it gives off the impression of either incompetence or thread bumping. Just so ya know.

ok. but it still is pretty popular since it kinda depends on how good u r plus the people that practice it suprisingly. even if there is a betting pattern, that wouldnt matter right? i mean, that's just lame if all they see is a pattern over and over and they think thats around to cheating. i guess most people use card counting for friends. its still fun and pretty cool to do.

sorry to double post but i just wanted to say that i can go through a deck in about a min or 50 sec

Are you serious? I'm not even serious about card counting but I can count down a deck in 30-40 seconds. I was expecting you to get down to the 20's or 30's as you seem so serious about this.

The best way to get anywhere with counting is with a team.

Using more advanced systems to get out that extra 1.5% or so is not worth it in my opinion. K-O system is the easiest and is the most worthwhile for your efforts.

That 1.5% could add up to 1.5mil so don't discard it.
If you're serious about counting use the hi-lo system, the kelly criterion and for god's sake make sure you get the true count.
Most importantly, never watch '21'.

If you use the search bar I just made a thread maybe a week or two ago and there was some good info on that thread. I'm not bashing you for not using the search bar but there should be one thread I made that has good info.

Do you know perfect basic strategy? If you are using the Hi-Lo system, can you convert to true count? Do you know how to vary your bet correctly? If you know how to count the values of the cards but don't know these three essential things, YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO COUNT CARDS; YOU SIMPLY KNOW HOW IT IS DONE.

On the other hand, the original book on card counting is pretty good. It's called "Beat the Dealer" and it is by Edward Thorpe. Another good book I recommend would be "Knock Out Blackjack" by Olaf Vancura and Ken Fuchs. The KO system is very easy to learn and doesn't require any conversions.

The reason I wanted to ask you the questions in the first paragraph is because a lot of people these days (after watching the movie 21) claim they can count cards. They know that low cards (2-6) have a value of +1 and high cards (10-A) have a value of -1 and 7, 8 and 9 are neutral. That's all they know. No basic strategy. No true count conversion. No bet variation strategy.

Personally, I don't count cards because more and more casinos are using Continuous Shuffling Machines which eliminates the fact why card counting works - the game has a past. With a CSM, the game has NO PAST.

If you want any help with basic strategy or other card counting related issues, please feel free to contact me.

Cheers,
Shanku

Yes, shanku mentioned everything, to count cards youll have to be able to know hi-lo ...... but hi-lo only works when you are using one deck, if you are using 6 decks, like they do in casinos, you will have to convert the count into true count .... its not that hard, but it takes time
, i have some charts with basic strategy in a PDF file also if you have any questions feel free to ask me .... just so you know card counting is not cheating or its ilegal, youre just using the information given to all the players on the table for your benefit.

PM me if you are interested.

i live for magic
I count a normal deck of cards in under 10 seconds. Personaly i think Hi-Lo system is CRAP!(and by the way in casinos its actualy called Plus-Minus) its not very acurite and EVERYONE knows it. Including casinos thats why most people using them get caught and backed off the table. The reason why that so called movie 21 used it was cause its so popular and u always get caught using it so they didnt care if movie veiwers learned how from it. True counts better but not the best casinos no that one to and will also catch you. Plus if, like some people said, their using multiple decks people dont no how to adjust and brake down. I use a methiod that isnt taught anymore and hasn't been for many years and its called Holiday. Dont bother its no where on the internet so dont even waste your time looking. its accurate and can be adjusted to any number of decks being used. Card counting isnt as hard as people make it out to be and only takes a little practise i know many diffrent methoiods of counting including Plus-Minus and True count and i know people who would catch counters by counting with them so they had to know every possible way and be able to do it flawless so trust me i know what im talking about
