It's a blessing and a curse! I think I should move to Alaska because I heard it's always daytime there. Really the only thing stopping me is a paralyzing fear of polar bears and penguins. But I feel like I'd be a lot more productive there. Currently 3:28am here in New York City, and still on the line with Andrei and Richard working out the final edit details on Genesis. Usually I know it's bedtime when it starts getting light outside...
I just have to respond to RDC. I'm not sure if the asking to be a mod was to me or not but just to be clear. I really was not asking to be, I was simply suggesting another thats all. Sorry if I confused anyone.
Great PR skills guys. Bayme, you have always done things right, even from the beginning with Digital Dissolve and the crediting issues. I like how these threads always start out with over-the-top accusations, and then are calmly and professionally addressed.
I run an extremely active design forum myself, and people must realize that online communities are a lot of work. I have been watching this thread since it first popped up, and I must say, I'm quite impressed with how everything played out. I was instantly reminded of the debate that took place before, not long before Zach became a mod, when everybody jumped on the "the forums are crap! We need better moderation!" bandwagon; thankfully, this thread didn't degrade nearly as much as the previous one (JB really jumped in quite swiftly with this one, and handled it very well).
I think the previous argument still stands...if we, as a community, band together to take care of the forums we populate, then all (read: most) should be well. It's a forum that's based around its members; you really get what you give.
There are times when a thread gets out of control...the common assumption is that we should fiercely push our position onto others (after all, we are right, and they are wrong), despite the fact that the back-and-forth "debate" (if you can call it that) quickly spirals out of control into a shouting match. The thought of having an adult conversation seems to disappear quickly when the "other" person starts arguing in a childish manner--for some reason, this means we must abandon all reason and drop to their level of argument (because it's obviously impossible to just drop the issue).
Taking a step back and letting the other person believe what they want, once you have posted your thoughts on the subject, rarely seems to be the solution anybody takes. Yet, we complain about the behaviour of others here on the forum, and even go so far as to ask for more moderation. What about self-moderation? What about growing up, and acting like an adult? I'd be more on board for that type of moderation, as apposed to adding yet another member to the T11 moderation team (which is doing a fine job as it is).
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if we stop posting so much garbage and acting like babies here on the forum, we'll need less babysitters cleaning up after us, as the babysitters we have now are doing a good enough job as it is (especially considering the way so many forum members act).

I am well aware I beseeched the mods to not close the thread until I had my point with the noob, I'm also well aware that I didn't report it.
It was a failure on my part both times.

I made it a point to say "we" in my post, as I didn't report the thread, and I stayed and argued as well. I'm at just as much fault as you are here. Also, please don't think my post was attacking your actions in any way. I wasn't saying "Boy, you sure screwed up in that thread!" at all. I was just pointing out that, while the mods should still do their part, we should all do ours as well to help them out.

Let's keep in mind that the mods don't post in every thread they clean up/close/delete (that last one for obvious reasons). I would agree that Doug (along with zach) is the most involved in the forums, as far as additional participation beyond that of his modding duties, but the other mods are still quite active in their moderation services.
As an example of services that go beyond what the typical member would see, I had a small chat with Jack via PM a while back about reporting posts. It was kind of a surprise, at the time, to see that Jack was the one to reply to the message I inserted into a report, given that Doug was the one I would see on the forums most often (and thus I assumed if anyone were to respond, it would be him). But, that's exactly what I'm saying--just because someone is an active participant in the discussions on the forums, and is the most visible when doing their moderating (it seems like he tends to close threads, rather than delete them), doesn't mean they are the only ones doing the moderating.
But I get what you're saying; it's definitely difficult to see how they're contributing to the moderating that happens, when you can't visibly see the process taking place.
As for the reported posts now going to the admins, as well--that is wonderful news, as I know that the admins here tend to lurk the forums more than most, so troublesome threads should be handled with even more haste.
And on a final note, it's nice to see this thread being handled in a civilized manner by all parties. If this were to spill over into every thread, I can definitely see the issues brought up here disappearing awfully quickly.

So it's all came down to this. We do need more mods. I have been here for quite a long time, and I have seen the forum have changed over the time. I remember back when this community just started, everyone are very friendly and very focus on the art ( I can say the raw theory11 spirit). But now days, the new member have lost the touch of the original Theory11 spirit. As we all know things change and stuff, but its very important to keep the same spirit. Days and days we see our older member do something they shouldn't be doing in the forum and that get our new member thinks it's ok to do it; I understand that we can't be serious all the time, but that doesn't mean we go wild joking around here. Sure there are a lot of post like this in the forum, but why haven't any changed to it? The only answer I have in mind is that we really not committed into this evolution.

Days and days we get more member in this forum, and that means we need to have more mods to keep the proportion between law enforcement and the people. not to offense any1 but kid will do what they do, while and stupid. That reason there is enough to put a crap load unnecessary threads in this forum. So why not get more mods? seriously why not? Why? I'm not saying going while about it, but be conservative get mods over differ country so no matter what or when, some1 is on the forum to distinguish chaos and enforce order.

Anyway, we do everything we can. Contrary to belief, I do have a life outside of Theory 11.
Right now, moderating T11 isn't the top thing on my list. Right now, I've got issues with the following: School, college applications, family stuff, and most recently - computer issues.
For the last 2 weeks or so, I will not deny that I was ignoring nearly every reported post email I got. I just don't have the time. Every day for the past week, I've been up from 6 AM until 5 AM. Yes, I've been living off of one hour of sleep for the past week. Not exactly healthy.
Also, I currently don't have access to my computer, but I have not been ignoring T11. I've been going on from my iPhone to see what's up (despite my other requires tasks). I'm actually typing this from my iPhone.
I have not been around to see what's been going on much, but I come on when I can (such as right now). So, I decided to make a new e-mail address so you guys can contact me 24/7. If you guys ever have an issue, or there is something REALLY bad you want taken care of, you can now e-mail me at doug@theory11.com.

Now I´m a li´l angry because I also think that something is very wrong here in these forums, simply because I created a new thread about an article I wrote in New Magic Source and I wanted to hear opinions of everybody here since I thought I will be helpful for me.... but I was wrong, I didn´t even got one reply!!!
the main reason I am angry is because there´s a lot of useless threads like the "I´m leaving theory11 because I don´t like the forums" or "chek dis out my sickest trick lol" or the threads to bash someone or a lot more that are not helping anyone here and all of those useless threads get a lot of replies!!! I am like WTF?!!!
I´m trying to advance the art by writing this article, to help everybody here or they could help me by telling me what they think, but it seems that everybody prefers give criticism to a thread with a video of a bad trick or bash Mystifier1 (no pun intended) or complain about off topic threads than give me your opinion on something that I consider important...
if you can write a paragraph about how you don´t like something in here maybe you can take 2 minutes and read the article and maybe learn something new or maybe bash me with something you don´t like about the article ...no harm done and everyone could learn something even me.

I agree with Doug in the fact that we try our hardest to do our Moderating duties, however that might not be our highest priority. Some days we might be extremely busy and the reported threads/posts are sitting in our inboxes unread, because we are out doing other things. However we do try and be as helpful and as active as we can. I'd like to repeat Doug in saying that if there is anything that needs immediate deletion, or you just have some thoughts on how this forum can improve, just shoot me an email: zach@theory11.com
