    Don't forget to have FUN!

Thanks Flip. My wife took them. It's always a good idea to have someone snapping pics for your FB page or website to go along with testimonials.

Whats your favorite deck to perform with....

I loved the white Ghost deck back in the day for sure.

Whats your favorite deck to perform with....

Bring on the haters...but I use the Bicycle Elite's from Penguin. I only use Bicycles when performing for paid gigs. Typically I'll buy the cheap bricks from Costcos as well.

    Remembering tricks

Not to beat a dead horse but why not? Ha. I was always taught to perform your strolling magic in sets. This is how I remember my magic and practice it accordingly. Set A = good opener (something fast and flashy) think Warning by Kostya, a card effect, followed by a good closer. Set B= Set C =...

    Don't forget to have FUN!

Thanks Chris! Yes, that's exactly what I mean. If you have made them smile, laugh, gasp, ponder, and simply enjoy their time with you...then you have done your job. It's not necessarily all about "fooling" or tricking them or showing them your card handling skills. Also, if you don't think...

    Don't forget to have FUN!

Just a few pics from a gig yesterday for a Realty Company in town. Focus on your spectators and allow them to experience the magic; however you also must allow yourself to enjoy their company and in turn have fun.

    Ellusionist Masters Deck Review

I used to buy the Master's Decks, throw the box away and just put them in regular bicycle boxes when performing paid gigs. I loved the feeling of the thick stock for sure.

    Working Professionally

Tons of solid advice given here, but I'm just going to be brutally honest with you with what I charge and I have 18 years of experience. Keep in mind this fluctuates big time based upon your demographics. In the area I live in, Canton, OH, I can barely charge $100 per hour of "strolling" magic...

    Magic show

I look forward to hearing a review of how it went - the good, the bad and yes the ugly. Ha. Have someone please take some pics and post here for us.

    Spamming on the Forums

Hi Maaz, unfortunately we do try to get to things handled as soon as they are reported and one of us sees the issue/spam; however, most of us do have full time jobs and just moderate this site on the side for fun.

How many magicians have gotten into acting in addition to magic shows?

I have "zero" acting experience and to be honest that is probably my most area of concern, struggle and needed growth. That being said, I have gotten better and have seen vast improvement over my 18 years of performing just by being thrown into the fire.

    The Financial Side

I'm going to be brutally honest here and may take some heat from other members here, but I can tell you right now that a good number of professionals (who have families to support and bills to pay) have a full time job and use the magic as a secondary source of revenue. There is no way I would...

    Saturday walk around gig report

Thank you for sharing this story. Until many members actually get out into the trenches they don't know what "will" and "can" happen. Most of what you learned from that gig cannot be learned from sitting behind the comfort of a keyboard at home or shooting footage for youtube magic channels. :)

    old versus new

Taking older principles from those relic books/magazines and rebranding them or dressing them for today's society is what is powerful and works wonders. I really do not care for phone magic myself as most spectators quickly understand that are magic apps out there doing the magic.

    Help on Seminar

Magic Square - Is that your Math trick or not? If not you could use that as it is impressive and not too difficult. Professor's Nightmare could be done easily by just buying some cheap rope or clothesline from Walmart. Cups and Balls routine with Styrofoam Cups and Pom Poms from Walmart. Are...

    Quick question...The dressing problem

I am similar to David. I DO wear suits to perform in. Many times at corporate events, wedding receptions and other venues I work in you will want to look a step above everyone else. I enjoy wearing my suit coat as it allows me to have my sets of 3 effects in various pockets ready to go. If...

That looks sick man. I like it a lot. Very creative approach.

    First Street Performance!

Well done Justin. That's what I was looking for. Thank you for taking the time to respond and answer some of my and I'm sure other members questions. I like how you were able to recognize that switching up the order of some of the performance pieces may provide a better overall experience for...

    Owning it

I understand your hesitance to share that you are a magician/entertainer as many people tend to laugh or snicker at this statement when it is made. Typically people who have not yet seen a good performer or close up magician just associate "magic" as the nerdy/geeky thing that people do in their...

    Just introducing myself

Nice to meet you Scott. You'll have a great time here and don't be afraid to ask questions and share your own knowledge with others. Good luck on your upcoming parlor show. If I can recommend one piece of advice from my experience, yes, please try to vary your material in your parlor show even...
