I have watched numerous magic competitions and one thing that stands out is you want to not only demonstrate your skill, but more importantly, your ability to "entertain" the crowd/audience. I do think you have a great idea. Smile, relax and most importantly have fun.

You can use a Joe Porper card clip, which does a fine job or you can purchase other clips that may be a bit cheaper. Honestly I only use cheap bicycle cards from Costco and don't even protect my cards. I just pitch the deck or after my shows/performances or hand them to a kid and watch them...

Wow, this post really caught me off guard because I went and saw Penn and Teller in Vegas about 5 years ago and it was phenomenal. I would have given it a 10/10.
