The Paper Engine and One-Hand Popover by Aaron F.

Absolutely. I´m a collector of magic books, but not just for the purpose of performing the material in it. I was looking for a special classic, the Alex Elmsley books, unfortunately out of print, for a long time, but wasn`t lucky and didn`t want to pay 200+ $ for a used copy. I just found The...

The Paper Engine and One-Hand Popover by Aaron F.

I would say you can`t go wrong. I also think Aaron is one best magic teachers I´ve seen/read. The book is very detailed and I don`t think that you`ll miss something. However I think (althoug I just own his book and watched his MM and other free videos) that his learning videos are even more...

Tricks with a reversed or different color card

I like Michael Vincent`s "Brainwave My Way", where the thought-of card (free choice) is the only one with a red back. You can hand the deck to the spectator in the end and it`s more or less impromptu. Not even difficult to do. Just needs some practice.

I second that! Juan Tamariz, Dani DaOrtiz, Miguel Angel Gea, Woody Aragon, Rafael Benetar (Venezuela), Ramon Rioboo, Rene Lavand (Argentina), Christian Engblom (Finland), Gabi Pareras, Roberto Giobbi (Suisse), Juan Luis Rubiales, Pit Hartling (Germany) are all fantastic magicians of the spanish...

    Jay Sankey's 'Leaving Home'

I would skip all these and get https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic/card-magic/the-definitive-sankey-volumes-1-3/ (I already have). These books are by far the best "sankeyresque" products ever released and you will get much more than just a one-trick DVD. BTW, this collection contains...

The Definitive Sankey (3 books, 1 DVD) - review

Far from beeing bad. In fact, you get much more for your money than any download and DVD can offer. There are great effects in these books (not all 500 effects, of course, but some of them are killer stuff), and on top of it you´ll get a DVD. Beyond secrets and some essays are also in the...

    Good Card Tricks

I agree but I think it is not meant to be taken literally. It is only an orientation to emphasize the fact that it is more important to do something masterfully than doing many things half-hearted (beeing a jack of all trades, master of none).

Any other good card magic books?

I would start with http://www.theory11.com/tricks/what-to-read-jason-england.php Some of the books are very hard to get (The Kaplan and the Walton books). Some of the others are easier to get as parts of compilations, for example Close-Up Card Magic ist rewritten in The Classic Collection 1, and...

    Forgetting Tricks

If I read a book and something gets my attention, I write it down in my notebook. I actually write everything down what comes to mind, even ridiculous stuff and thoughts. I also try to store and categorize every trick I do or new ones I´m interested in (but not every trick/effect/routine I...

    Practicing the natural.

Michael Skinner did warm-up sessions before he performed where he just did natural card handling moves, such as fans, spreads etc. So did Vernon before he performed a trick with a top change for example (he practiced the move in the context of picking up a card box he pushed down before).

    Cannibal Cards

I love the "Examinable Cannibals" routine in "A book in English". Woody describes a gaffed and also an impromptu, non-gaffed version, which both are examinable for the spectator after each vanish. Takes a lot of practice (one of the technical most demanding routines in the book) but is worth it...

    Improvisational magic anyone?

I think you are looking for Jazz Magic, as popularized by Dani DaOrtiz. He`s great with "jazzing".
