Ben Earl on Penn and Teller's "Fool Us"

On youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phg5NSg0V_E) and the full show http://www.filmshowonline.net/videos/48572/ I have to say I love the concept of the show (magic for magicians) but I don´t like any exposure in front of lay audiences. Sometimes they keep it cryptic, ok, but they expose...

Ben Earl on Penn and Teller's "Fool Us"

I agree. Very good nerves and Ben Earl is extremely talented. I enjoyed Michael Vincent`s performance more, although he didn´t fool them. He was the most entertaining of all participants IMO.

    Go the Extra Mile

A double-edged sword that is. As an entertainer I think that´s true and good for your reputation. But I´m permanently employed and in my experience the following saying is often true. In German, but it´s not a german saying: Wenn du Unmögliches vollbringst erreichst du damit nur, dass der...

What´s the overall difficulty level ? Knuckle busting magic or within the reach of the average performer?

    Looking for a DVD

As mini magician already said, that´s (from your description) Andi Gladwin`s 'The Master Pushoff'. He doesn´t teach bottom deals but seconds, thirds, fourths....tenth deals and pushoffs. Fantastic DVD.

    Elegance, sophistication and finesse

Michael Vincent http://www.londoncardexpert.co.uk/cardexpert/ and, of course, René Lavand http://www.renelavand.com/english/rene_lavand.htm Elegance is the first thing that comes to my mind when watching Lavand or Vincent.

recommend me some card magic books, but..

Great magician. The Card Classics of Ken Krenzel (although not written by himself) is such a good book, highly recommended. Also recommended: 'One degree' by John Guastaferro. It´s a must-have and offers what you want. Modern handlings, effects that happen in the spectator´s hand, some nice...

    Magical > technical?

Two of Darwin´s Law of one of my favorite magic books, 'Strong Magic' Although I don´t agree with everything in this book 100%, I agree that presentation is important, but it should not overshadow the effect. The effect is the most important part of any magic performance. Anything else, pattern...

    Playing Cards from Spain?

Why 605? You can easily buy some 505 there. As far as I know they´re not much different. It´s the name you pay for. 605 are ridiculous overpriced in comparison to 505s.

Are the S&Ms v5, Traditional Cut?

I haven´t stated the opposite. All I can say is the way I do the in-the-hand-faro works better with the non-traditionally cut cards (I`d like to think that the standard bicycles 808 are (well most of the time) all non-traditionally cut, no ?!). 'Better' means the cards are face down. The faro...

Book to add stuff OTHER than cards to my repertoire?

The question is, which is your area of interest? Coins ? Newspapers ? Cigarettes ? Ropes ? Ordinary objects ? Bottle effects ? I got Charlie Justice´s 'Prohibition' as a bonus for my last purchase, which is a great cap-in-bottle effect. The teaching is in-depth and it´s really fun to do that in...

Are the S&Ms v5, Traditional Cut?

Also the Phoenix cards (the cardshark ones, not the other Phoenix cards) are all traditionally cut. I don´t think trad. cut cards faro better. I faro from the top to bottom. With traditional cut cards the cards has to be face up for an easy faro (face down doesn´t work for me)...

In Need Of Some Durable Cards

I would buy some packs of cheap standard bikes. Bicycle Masters ? They say they last up to 7 times longer than a standard deck. That´s complete and utter bull**** (even more when you´re constantly handling the cards) and the typical marketing blah-blah. Under absolutely NO conditions do they...

    impromtu card magic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ljvvbO7MK4 Totally impromptu, no gimmicks. There´re some other great effects in his latest book which doesn´t require a setup. Also Harry Lorayne has written some nice books with lots of great impromptu effects. Sadly (or thankfully ?!) the youtube generation...

    Pushover DL

I also have The Master Pushoff and I really like the DVDs. He shows various uses of the pushoff and gives lots of additional tips. The second disc alone is worth the money IMO. The only drawback is that the explanaition of the move itself could be a little bit more indepth for my taste (more...
