Sentinels versus Ellusionist Arcane Playing Cards

After using the Sentinels some people asked me if I´m a member of the Illuminati cult. No kidding!

    African-American Magicians?

Nobody mentioned Michael Vincent? Ok, he´s not American, but one of the best magicians I know of. I like his 'Gentleman' style.

what is your favourite trick to do ?

I sl(e)ightly disagree. IMO, if anything, a trick is rather a routine than an effect. At least that is what most magicians mean when they use the term 'trick' . A trick is less than a routine, but more than an effect to me (a mini routine if you like). But I agree that laymen don't...

what is your favourite 5 magicians in the world

Whit Haydn is hilarious. Always a pleasure to watch him perform. I´ve to add one more. Jason Latimer. His Glass cups and balls routine is the best of its kind I´ve ever seen.

what is your favourite trick to do ?

Of course, many tricks consist only of one effect. I didn´t exclude that either. That´s why I wrote 'at least' (in the sense of 'at the minimum'). Sorry, my english sucks.

what is your favourite trick to do ?

Because it`s an effect, not a trick. It´s a transposition (a color change as saborfang stated). In my opinion a trick has at least one effect (or more) and a plot or meaning ?!? My favorites right now are Total Coincidence (Juan Tamariz), Impromtu OOTW (Harry Lorayne), Homage to Homing (John...

What do you think is the most hard hitting effect?

I agree with Mat. I also think that presentation should serve to strengthen the effect, not the other way around. Sometimes magicians focus so much on presentation that it casts a damp over the effect.

    4 of a kind trick

'Homage to Homing' (four of a kind and a selection card) by John Guastaferro. Also check out his latest book 'One Degree'.

    Double Lift

Whether a double looks natural or not is directly connected to the (character of the) magician and the way he handles a deck of cards. For magician A it may look natural for the spectators when he turns over a card in a special (fancy) way. For magician B it may not. That´s why I refrain from...

    Dealing with haters

I don´t know about David Copperfield (have only read or heard good things about him), but Uri Geller fits #4, and he is nevertheless very successful in what he does. I don´t agree with everything. It´s a bit too generalized for my taste. In reality it´s much more complex and situation-related...

    Tutorial for Gambler vs magician

Gambler vs. Magician can be found in 'Personal Secrets' by Harry Lorayne. It also part of the Classic Collection Vol1, which is an updated collection of his first books, including 'Personal Secrets'. It´s a classic version, not excactly the one shown in the video. I like Hayashi´s version. He´s...

    Yes, it´s from Mnemonica.

    Anti-Faro and practical magic

I think it can be practical for memdeck work, especially if you can do a partial anti-faro. I can´t do an anti faro like that, just a normal faro. But i use the Tamariz-Anti(4)-Faro from time to time, which requires no sleight-of-hand at all.

    My Repertoire

I wouldn´t recommend to build your repertoire by recommendations of other magicians. The perspective of a magician is different from a layman´s perspective. They may estimate whether a trick works for them/their audience or not, but they can´t tell you whether it`ll work for you/your audience...

    Repertoire Building

A trick may work well for others, but doesn´t work for you, or vice versa. It depends on your character, the theme of your act, the structure etc. Try out what works for the audience. The best feedback you´ll ever get is from the audience. Take notes about why something works/doesn´t work for...

    Royal Road to Card College

Not really. Sorry but Card College as a whole is by FAR more complex and indepth than Royal Road. Not just a rewrite. The more advanced volumes cover material that isn´t even mentioned in Royal Road. For me, CC was (and still is since it doesn´t stop where RR ends) indefinitely better...

    Sonata by Juan Tamariz

Quote by Stephen Minch I have the Spanish version. I don´t speak Spanish and it´s hard work for me to translate it. But hey, it´s Tamariz ;) I think you can still get the book in Spanish, but I´m not sure.

I Don't Want To Just Learn Another Trick...

Maybe. However, the Ortiz book are a very good read and not boring like many other magic books. Although it´s impossible to absorb all the information in these books on the first read (let alone utilizing the information), I find Strong Magic and Designing Miracles as unputdownable as a good...

I Don't Want To Just Learn Another Trick...

I agree with everything. Although you´re not going to be a better performer just by reading, the books mentioned are required reading for any magician in my mind. They don´t just give you a manual, they force you to THINK (and work) about your magic in ways you´ve probably not considered before...
