June 2009 :: How deep should the rabbit hole go?

I have been holding off on answering the question for quite awhile, and for no real reason. I play everything I do as a skill as opposed to a gift. Being a mentalist my character is someone who has an amazing understanding of psychology both on reading people and influencing them. This...

Favorite Ways to reveal a sandwhich effect

I prefer something that happens in the spectators hands. Look at Ben Earl's two collectors routines even though the first one is ridiculously visual and looks almost like real magic in Ben's hands however to spectators, the second version to the spectators is so much more surprising. It...

Be Yourself With Someone Else's Magic

Thanks for the read it was very interesting. It is so true, I still occasionally steal a few lines of patter when I am doing my effects but I have made the decision to rework my patter. I saw a performance on youtube of one of the members from these forums where they straight stole Wayne's...

As far as to doing pure mentalism I have not been doing it that long (a little over two years.) About a year before that I decided to start pursuing mentalism more than traditional magic but I still preformed it in shows. I still do a little magic around friends and family however when i am...

    Strongest Mentalism Effects?

Props to me are and should be a natural thing. I will never have anything on the stage that does not look or feel natural for me and the audience. Even if they are things like Add a No. pads all the way to gimmicked envelopes. I agree that your words and actions far outweigh the props that...

    Strongest Mentalism Effects?

Sean Later in my post I said predictions are one of the most amazing things that a mentalist can do. I don't really do a lot of them for no real reason it is just I like my performances to feel almost improvised so prediction effects to me seem a little contrived. Jordan I agree that...

    Strongest Mentalism Effects?

Randy Mentalism is the apparent ability to read minds. Just because an effect uses playing cards does not mean that it is not mentalism. The Invisible Deal is one of the best pure forms of mentalism I have seen with a deck of cards. Ramjollock for me is kind of a hit and miss, it is a...

Ambitious Card - 'what sleights do you use?'

I don't really preform to ACR anymore. My belief though is that the card should 'magically' come to the top. So in my ACR when I preformed it there was no cutting or shuffling of the deck as that would give the audience something to hold onto. However these methods of controlling a card have...

    What's your main trick?

Usually my mini routine goes something like this. Force (Peek) with a reveal. I explain that I am reading their tells, and get a second spectator to have a try. If I have a table near by I will go on to either my version of out of this world, a multiple selection routine based on Andy...

    Psychokinetic Silverware by Banachek

I agree with Dee. If you want to learn silverware bending get this DVD and you will have more than enough material to work with. It also gives you ideas on how to makes some more impressive displays of the bending.

    FUSION (REMIX) - Sean Fields

What Sean Says Sean Fields’ Fusion is regarded by many as the finest torn & restored card effect in existence! Imagine tearing a signed, chosen card into 4 pieces; they clearly see THEIR card being destroyed. They clearly see 4 individual pieces. Now imagine their faces as you slowly, and...

    World's greatest magic trick?

Killer Spies [/thread] No seriously there is no one best trick. The best effect you can do is dependent on the impact on the audience. As long as they enjoy it you have done your job. It is the in the audience's own eyes what they love the most.

Taking WOW to the next level - A MIRACLE!

Kieth Barry calls himself a magician more than he calls himself a mentalist. Straight up it is a trick. Everyone in the audience who sees it will understand it as that and nothing more. How exactly are you reading minds I could understand the open prediction and the book test as such...

Taking WOW to the next level - A MIRACLE!

Nice effect, but I would hardly call it a 'Mentalist's Dream'

    Suggestion

Don't tell them that you are going to make them forget the card. You have drawn attention to the card and they will automatically focus more on it either to not look stupid or to try and catch you out. I will shoot you a PM to explain a little more.

Who do you feel are the top creators in magic today?

Marc Spelmann and Luke Jermay are two that need more credit. Sean Fields has some amazing ideas aswell.
