Boy does someone have an axe to grind on me tonight. First the Dan Sperry thread and now here. I suspect your post on this thread is motivated by reasons other than what you've listed here. For someone with only 33 posts you sure seem to have a powerful opinion.
It's called a forum. Anyone who posts anything in a public forum such as this is open to recieve feedback from anyone with equil levels of diversity in their answrs.
I'm sure that 99.9% of all people with pro-cheating opinions against the poster in question are all under the age of 18 and are in school themself.
Ethics is a mature subject. So is morality. The subject of cheating and especially using slight of hand to do so falls into both catagories.
I can not expect a minor take the subject seriously, as demonstrated by yourself and the recently posted Heavymetalaholic. So your posts and objections do come as less than a shock.
However to answer your question: My problem is with the very fact that I don't endorse using slight of hand to gain an unfair advantage in school or for anything else for that matter. It is cheating. It is wrong, and I would expect as magicians we would hold ourselves to a higher set of standards.
I can not explain my point any clearer or any further than that. Failure to understand this is failure to engage me any further in intelligent conversation on the matter.
I think the act of cheating was immature, and wrong. I don't condone it. I don't advise anyone else to attempt to copy it. Period.

It's indeed funny...by cheating, he's staying very stagnant in his academic endeavors, as he'd be less likely to commit the information to memory. Which, at the same time, would affect his life on the a whole; a lack of knowledge can be quite limiting. Then there are the ways it affects his moral/ethical development, which can translate to other areas of his life. It affects him greatly, it would seem.

Funny how the easiest place to perform mentalism is a magic forum. 9 times out of 10 I can predict how a thread will turn out. and 7 out of those 9 times it's with a pms claim.
Tell me about it. I learned the hard way with one of my Engineering courses. Having 7 courses, instead of 5 courses like every other faculty, really makes a difference--most students would pool together our work for assignments (otherwise, it would be really tough to have any time to do anything else...I really wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not). I set myself up for failure in my second year of university, when it came to the second year equivalent of that course...I barely made it through the course (it would have been far easier had I committed the previous years' stuff to memory, as the course obviously builds upon prior knowledge).
Since switching to Psychology and Sociology, though, the temptation to cheat has disappeared, and I've really learned how rewarding it is to actually learn the material (going from 40+ hours of classes (plus assignments, studying for quizzes/midterms/exams, etc) down to <20 kind of helps, heh). It's nice to walk into a 100 item exam and confidently plow through all of the questions actually knowing what you're doing, and not having to rely on cheating. It's also nice to be able to discuss the material after (or before) exams, and actually know what you're talking about. Among other perks, of course.

Okay: Here's the results from my conversation with Las Vegas Mentalist Paul Draper.
I asked Paul the question as to weather or not card counting is illegal in Las Vegas to the extent of the casino being able to arrest.
I was wrong by my assumption that the casinos can arrest you.
Paul had the following things to say:
Casino's in Vegas are very much their own contries. They are private property, they have their own security, police, jails, food, etc.
If you are suspected or caught counting then the following would happen.
Two men in suits who are usually ex: Army Rangers, Navy Seals, or some other vocation with experience in hurting you in non physically visable ways, will approach you and ask you to leave.
Your chips are forfit, and you don't get to cash them in. You are banned from that casino and any other casino owned by the same company.
Here's where things get interesting. IF you just play along, and leave quietly nothing bad happens. IF you fight, argue, or put up a scene then they take you to a small little room and break toes, beat you up, etc.
They may choose to have the cops come out and detain you for a while, talk to you, warn you, etc. But they can not have you arrested.
Now, since casinos are private property and if you are asked to never come back, and you do; then you are now trespassing. Things change. They can have you arrested for tresspassing. Or worse physical things can be done to you.
Interesting to note: Casino's don't usually care if you get up only a couple hundred bucks or so. It's when you start winning lots of money or frequently that they begin to take interest.
So is it illegal? No. Should you do it? Probably not either. I'll have my words with some mustard and a side of frys.

Although I'm assuming you're referring to William, since you quoted him, I have no idea why you'd call him a "mod"...my screen has him showing up as a "member".
Either way, I condone others cheating fully...makes my life easier when it comes to, say, a job interview, where I'd actually be prepared and they'd be at a loss for words (when it comes to technical-type questions)...or, the alternative, they'd have to fumble around with notes of some sort (since they obviously wouldn't know anything--nothing they "learn" would be committed to memory).
1.) I'm going to ignore your request to move this to private because I feel I need to mke a very public point here. When have I EVER said I was a mod? I'm not. You've assumed something here, and we all know what happens when you assume. I'm just some joe who has a hell of a lot of experience in magic and a strong opinion, and the respect of my peers.
2.) From what I can tell I have been the mature one. I'm just following patterns. You show up new on the forum with only 33 posts to your account. You lay into me in another thread, obviously still feeling sore and defensive of your religion (for some reason I don't understand since I've never directly insulted you specificly) you then post another assult on me in this thread. All I'm doing is pointing out that I find this odd, and that I think there is a connection between the two.
3.) I'm the last person to get paranoid. I don't know you, and you haven't given me any reason to care. So I highly doubt you'll get me upset.
4.) I don't care if people agree with me or not. Infact I do enjoy people disagreeing. You never grow or learn otherwise. Hell look at this thread. I was wrong about the legality of card counting. I was called out on it. I did the research, and admitted I was wrong. Speaking of doing research, If I were you, I'd do your research before you attack me like this. I will defend myself.
