Are there still Criss Angel haters... Why?

Just to make a fun statement before i start, i think it's really cool that Criss Angel actually grew up in my town (East Meadow, NY) and went to my high school (East Meadwo High School) and went to the same magic shop that i go to.

Anyway, i personally do not like Criss Angel. I do think that he uses too many camera effects, and i believe it's cheating.

However, there are many ways you could look at it. Some might say that he is allowed to use stooges because his audience is those at home, not those he is performing for. [That was not my idea, i got it from one of Waynes daily updates] Also, the amazing reactions that you get from people when you perform are becasue that what you did is impossible, at least in their minds. They'ed like to think its a camera effect, but they can't becasue it JUST happened to them in real life. If they saw that same trick on camera, the would easily say its editing, but its not. How do you KNOW Criss is using editing. I've had people say, when we watch Mindfreak, "Louis, do you know how he did that?" I say "yea, camera tricks." But i'm not positive.

One more thing... When i perform, i get called Criss Angel, becasue people know him. People know what magic is becasue of him. David Blaine introduced it to many, but more people have heard of Criss Angel. Whether they like him and want to see more magic from you, or don't and want to see magic from you becasue they want to see it in real life.. they want to see it from you. I'm not quite sure if i explained myself well, so just tell me if i don't make any sense

Bottom Line, i don't really like him, even though ive said good things about him, i do thnik he is a cheat. That is my opinion.

I will admit the majority of the people, I have spoken with, feel that a lot of his stunts are staged, but yet they still watch him every time he has a new episode...including me, and YOU!

Another thing to think about, is this man (Chris Angel) gets freaking PAID!! I can't speak for the rest of you, but if A&E offered me or agreed to pay me a huge sum of money to continue a series I would jump all over it. And if I had to "stage" some effects to keep the general public happy and tuning in to the next episode, you better believe that "staging" is exactly what I would do. And I believe that the majority of you would do the same. The only people I feel can have a honest "beef" with Chris Angel is whoever has worked with him before. Other than that, this he had to do whatever he has to do to put food on his table. Personally, I feel his close up effects are great and his show is ENTERTAINING, and I think that is the point.

So you're basicly telling me that you're a sell out. As long as money is being offered you wouldn't care about the magic, the integrity or the art. Just so long as you get paid.

That makes you just about as bad as him. Except that he's already doing it, you're still just having fantasies.

TV Serries "Supernatural" season 4, Episode 12: "Criss Angel is A Douche". I rest my case.

I'm not joking about this either.... look it up!

That was a great episode too. Ha. It was so refreshing to see non-magicians mock the hell out of him.

Do you think people believe what they see on TV? in the movie?
From inside, they know most of that are Fake, sure they do. But they still cry for a movie end; have their idol poster on wall. Criss Angel is same thing, uncut video/audience is bull****, many people know that.
I like him because much more people have idea of watching 'magic'.
I don't like him because his mouth and his words, sometimes very ridiculous.
He is a great entertainer who work hard but he will never get much respect among magic community.

There's plenty of reasons to dislike him. He's a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to his approach to magic... he openly bashes people who do tricks just like him and say they're supernatural, but of course, is not in any way refraining from telling people how he floated above the Luxor casino.

There's his methods of magic, which are ironically both cheap and highly expensive. Everything, from the effects to spectators are bought, and bought with means far beyond that of the average person. He reminds me of batman in a way...

Of course there's the comparisons to David Blaine. But at least he used effects that were within the means of magicians like you and me, and impressed the hell out of people. What is magic about? Is it the money or the art? I find these two represent these to their fullest.

What bothered me most, and what made me lose all respect for him, was when he impersonated David Blaine. Is he really so insecure that he has to make an adolescent attack against another popular performer? Where's David Blaine's insulting act against Criss? Perhaps Criss is compensating for the fact that his skill and his bank account aren't exactly equally involved in his magic...

Also I've found that most of his really hardcore (laymen) fans seem like, to me, some of the dumbest people... but that's just a personal observation. It might not be a very fair one but that's the impression I got. I mean, these are the people who completely believe that the man is magical, when on another tv show he says there's no such thing. I find it kind of funny.

First off, I am reporting this, because it is an explosion of arguments just waiting to happen.

Now, I will give my thoughts on the subject.

I am not a Criss Angel fan but nor am I a Criss Angel Hater. I feel that hate is a strong word in the first place, but truly, anyone who is making that much cash and amazing people every night, there is no reason to hate that person. To divulge deeper...

I do not respect Criss as a magician, because it would appear to me that he happens to know some very basic tricks and then everyhing else is camera trickery and what not. However, what is the job of a magician? To entertain. Which brings me on to my next point.

I do respect Angel as an entertainer. Night after night in his "Believe" show, he amazes people. And when laymen watch him on TV, they can't get enough, because they don't know any better. He amazes people and entertains people, and he does it well, so he deserves his money and fame.

Also, I am going to make a comment to whom ever called him a "hack". Do you even realize, that every magician is a hack? We tell everyone tthat we do magic. WE tell them that levitation is a power. We tell everyone that we have abilities. Or use complicated patter to say it's like a puzzle. All that is absolute bull... none of that is real, because WE ARE hacks. In reality all we do is execute a simple Marlo Tilt, catch a basic break and lift two cards. Nothing magical about it. Does anybody else realize this?

respect the man. He is good at what he does. I have met the man a few times and every time he has been really cool to me. People bashing him cause girls, and some guys, find him "sexy" is pointless. Focus on his magic. I think the way he performed "split decision" was pretty good. He wouldn't be where he is today if he wasn't a good entertainer. His sleight of hand magic is pretty good. He's not the best at one style, but he chose to be good at every style. Some tricks are cheesy but there are a lot that are really good. The man knows how to work a crowd. I don't care for Blaine, but He is good at what he does. Just like Angel, you may not like his style, but he got to where he is for a reason. The few times I met him, he was a really cool, normal guy. Wasn't really cocky that much. He does have a little bit of an ego though, but it was a lot worse from what I've heard. I say agree to disagree.

I appreciate that he has been very successful, but I'm not so much a fan because he does not seem very authentic. He seems a bit too over confident.
