Muscle Reading

I was reading (well. Re-Reading) Derren Brown's 'Tricks of the mind' and stumbled upon his introduction to muscle reading.

Before reading the book, i was quite aware of muscle reading and its mechanics, though i have never bothered to try it in real life. After re-reading the brief chapter on the mechanics of it and without any other sources for muscle reading, i decided to give it a shot.

Three mugs, a paracetamol pill. Possibly the WORST spectator for magic has been selected (My lovely adorable mother)

First attempt is a failure, but i breezed through the 2nd and 3rd attempts.

Anyways, that was my experience and I must say, i was quite shocked at the difficulty level of that specific task. Discuss Muscle reading here!

You can find an in-depth look (visually, on DVD) at muscle reading in Banachek's Psi Series. I believe it's the third video.

I've yet to actually try muscle reading, but I've been looking into it a little bit. It looks interesting, that's for sure.

Fun fact: Kreskin always ends his show by having the audience members hide his paycheck anywhere they like (in an audience member's shoe, in a piece of food if the place is being catered, in a hidden nook or cranny in the wall/floor, etc), and then he finds it through muscle reading. (Note that I was at one of his shows, and his muscle reading looked questionable...I suspect he does it through another method, which I won't discuss here, but he claims it's muscle reading (although he doesn't call it that--he "reads their thoughts", of course ;))).

That's very interesting, Thank you for sharing. You should give it a shot, i was quite bewildered at the results, it seems that its something that is learned through Trial and error- as with most of Mentalism effects.

Muscle reading, or "contact mind-reading" as I like to call it, is fast becoming one of my favourite techniques. I think the most exciting thing about it is the fact that it can become a springboard to non-contact mind reading which can produce literally unbelievable effects.

It took me a long time to do muscle reading. I used the instructions on Banachek's dvd, I have gotten pretty good at it that I can use a cord, tied to a wrist to locate a hiddedn object in a room. But I have practiced it for several years before I did it opennly to public eyes.

Coming soon

Watch for two DVD's coming up by Pascal De Clermont. I worked on the english translation Pascal is considered to be the best in the world, when it comes to Muscle Reading, and Hellstromism. And the footage is truly remarkable. And he reveals techniques never ever released. I myself dabbled, and was blown away by this series and his level of skill. They are to be called Mental XL and Pure telepathy. Stay tuned I think it will release in two months...

Now I am very interested in these DVDs. I use a lot of muscle reading in all aspects of my shows from casual impromtu effects all the way to my stage show.

If anyone takes this really seriously I would love to throw around some ideas on the subject.

I learnt muscle reading from Banachek's DVD. The entire 20ish minute show is Muscle reading so you get a strong idea of what it is like when performed. Then the rest of the DVD goes into his thoughts and what not on it.
Though not a big fan of it, it is quite amazing when done well. i have tried it 5 times in total since the 3 years I have "learnt" it and never failed one. Though this was ofcourse a micro performance. Just 5 objects placed half a feet apart from each other and I find the chosen one. The final time was a nice little find the object in the room thing. Took a while as I was not as confident, but it was successful. I was actually pleasantly surprised to find it that simple and quite easy at times.
Should be fun to perform but really... I dont think there is much mystery to it. To audience, it is amazing as ever that you can sense these muscle movements and what not but wheres the mystery. You always could mix in some good patter but you cant really justify the reading part without actually telling them what youre doing.

A little insight

Now I am very interested in these DVDs. I use a lot of muscle reading in all aspects of my shows from casual impromtu effects all the way to my stage show.

If anyone takes this really seriously I would love to throw around some ideas on the subject.

A few insights into Pascals upcoming releases:

1) Pascal teaches his technique of drawing a picture of something in your spectators mind using muscle reading. Within 40 seconds he draws the picture in her mind right on the tablet flat in front of them. No invasive questioning just what seems like pure telepathy.

2) Correctly predicting a thought of card, and suit with Muscle Reading.

3) Finding a hidden object in two minutes through muscle reading.

These, and so many other effects are released for the first time from the master of Muscle reading, and Hellstromism. Produced by Stephane Jardonnet productions these are surely not to be missed for those wanting to take it to the next level. Pascal has enhanced, and sharply developed techniques no one else knows or used. This release will expose what he has kept closed off from everyone baffled by his abilities. Abilities that has taken him around the world performing.

I'll let you all know when they release. Mental XL comes out first.

Is this a poll. Steerpike seems to be a Scientologist. Better not knock on my door Alex.... Act like a friend and then gauge your pendulum. I deserve an apology from you!
