I personally don't think it is a good idea to attempt to convert people though magic, or try to convert people in general. I am a proud atheist. I do not bash on religion though. I do have the highest respect for it, but I just can't trick myself into believe a higher being. Any ways, people will believe in what they want to believe in and you shouldn't try to convert them, and bring magic into it just makes it worse.

I understand many non-Christians believe that Christians shouldn't go around trying to convert people, but please realize that the Christian faith requires Evangelism. Don't hate on Christians because they try to convert people. They feel that they are saving your soul. They're doing what they believe is good. If they can do that through magic, so be it.

...Why? Religion has been doing it for years.

And so has government.
Everyone decieves to get what they want.
If one "christian" is corrupt they are all seen as corrupt.
If one politician is corrupt the all daddy government is bad.
This is not exclusive to religion and to use the usual "religion is corrupt/lies" is just a weak argument.

It wouldn't be any better, it'd just be the other side of the same coin. If you are truly passionate about both atheism and magic then by all means combine the two if you'd like. If you watched Penn & Teller's episode about the bible or Derren Brown's "Messiah" special you'd get some good examples.

Again, I'd just urge the performer to do so in a non-pushy way (see my first post). I personally feel like one of the reasons magic is so great is because everyone can enjoy it. Adding any kind of agenda to it will only make it less accessible.

I will say though, just like religious beliefs, how you view magic is a personal thing. I feel I have no right to say my way is any better or worse than anyone else's way. More often something I read here will enhance how I already view magic making it better.

because you do the same exact thing and they started before us also. Christian have been yelling at atheist and have killed us for our beliefs. I get yelled at every day for being an atheist in school. I get called insane things also. I do not bash on religion though and I am sorry if I do seem like I am bashing christianity, I do have the highest respect for religion and I do try to learn from the lessons it teaches. And I will be the first to admit most atheist suck, they are annoying, but they are just asses, and there are asses in every religion known to man.

I also think this thread has gone out of control and religion on this forum should not be allowed

Christianity tries to "convert" people to show them who God is, in hope of them being saved. Everyone has an inherent knowledge of God's existence, they just chose to not believe in him. it's not even "converting" its showing you truth is what it is. Its difficult cause so many of you will say this is nonsense, but what happens when your dying? and you realize you wasted your life by not glorifying what should be your single, all embracing passion, namely Christ. Its sad that you'd actually RATHER think that when you die you die... and your nothing more, really. How can anyone believe that existence precedes essence? that you exist, and then, by existing, you create your own essence. You can look at the sky and not see it a thousand times, it doesnt change the fact that it does exist. sooner or later you will see that if you dont trust in God, you wasted your entire life, and now its over.. And you dont care right now, you dont see it, because you are blind. feel free to PM me :) haha.

Hey guy's,

Wonderful thread. Their has been alot of interesting ideas and concepts brought up and I you guys have kept things relitively civil so thank you so much. Like I have said before were all friend and we respect each other. I noticed a couple of things in reading these recent posts and their are a couple of things I would like to clear up. As before I will have the quote then my response.

"I get yelled at every day for being an atheist in school."

Here is a quote from a Christian in Ethiopia about how she was tortured by Ethiopian Communists for not denying Jesus Christ in 1980,
"They forced my hands under my knees and tied them there. Then they put a stick through these ropes and hung me upside down. They filled my mouth with dirty rags. I almost suffocated. They beat me, breaking my bones. Great pieces of skin hung from my body."
This was all done to her because she said she would not deny Christ. The reason she was able to endure such grave persecution was becuase she said that Jesus was living in her and gave her strength. I am just saying Christians have been beat, murdered, bowled in hot oil, and tortued for Christ.

"I feel I have no right to say my way is any better or worse than anyone else's way."

Once again, I say it all come down to truth. Its not my way that is better then anyone elses its Gods way, that is the truth revealed to us in his Word the Bible. Its about truth, not ideas and debates.

"people just need to preach and teach the word, not further Christianity, what is there to really further in a certain religion since it's based on past writings. Just wanted to clear it up."

I am not trying to further "Christianity" I am trying to save souls from hell because I care about them.

"This is why I support war, usually its because of 1 invisible man vs another, the less religious idiots there are in the world, the happier i become. "

Recently I heard about a atheist in the news killing somone. Does this mean all atheists support murder? No of course not that would be completley absurd. Just because some people have done horrible things in the name of Christianty does not mean that is that is the way all christians are ,just like all atheists are not murders. Those who have done horrible things in the name of christianty are hypocrytes and are not obeying the Bible they are following after their own ideas and whims. Just wanted to clear that up.:)

"Religon"

One last thing I wanted to clear up is being a believer in Jesus Christ is not a religon. Religon has the idea behind it that I can "atone myself through good works and I will further myself"
As a beleiver in Jesus Christ I am not part of a religon I am not futhering my own goals and ideas nor am I atoning my self I am living out the saving Grace of our Lord and Savior out of the joy that he save a wretch like me. And I so I hit the streets, not to further myself or my goals, but out of care for others and where the will spend eternity.

Thanks all for hearing me out. I respect all of you and I have been enjoying chatting with all of you. Thanks for keeping things civil.

God bless all of you,

Christian

People of faith have been persecuted much worse than a few name calls.
And it was not that "they started before us". It has always been the same for either side.

A religion is a system of human thought which usually includes a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, deity or deities, or ultimate truth.[1] Religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, but more generally is interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws, ethics, and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience.
The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system,"[2] but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively.
Yes,you are in a religion.
You cant argue with a textbook definition. Its not something debatable. You belong in this category. And whats wrong with having the title of being religious

I have a problem with atheism. Everything that I've been told about atheism by atheist is that everything is an "unknown". They don't seem to have an answer for much. While Christians have answers that they take from The Bible which can't be refuted because it's the truth. While evolutionists seem to use nature as their proof, but everything has been proven to be fake. Such as the "Missing Links" Even the layers of the earth that they use to date things. There are layers of the crust of the earth like this here.

All I've heard about this from evolutionists is they are able to find out how old the fossils and things that are in those layers becuase of how old they layers are. And when asked on how they know how old the layers are they say that they know how old the layers are because of the fossils are down there. Circular reasoning. I believe it's Pascal's Gambit that states that there isn't a reason one should believe in God or a higher power because, whats to loose. If there isn't a higher power than you've lost nothing. Although that isn't a good thing to base your faith on, it's something to think about.

And again, I hope we can all be nice about this. There have been a couple of offensive posts and I would appreciate it if we could keep this open.

Now that I'm done with that, the idea of pushing your faith on to someone. That isn't the point of this thread at all. The point is to find out more about the subject so we can witness to those who are OPEN to it. What kind of example would we be if we pushed things on people? That's like a pornstar teaching about abstinece! There are the "christians" who seem like crazy people shouting from street corners. The whitewashed tombs like the pharisees. The ones who preach hate. And then there are the ones who follow God's word, the ones who actually do care about you and not "spiritual points" that add up for them in heaven (Those points don't exist by the way. lol.).

Now please, please, keep this respectful!
Thanks. :D
